Business As Usual

I’ve just finished my lecture, which means that it’s time to enjoy the weekend! Unfortunately, I have a big assignment due at the next of week, so I probably should stay at the library finalising my assignment. What a great way to spend my Friday!

I’ve heard that the weather this weekend will be great again, which is exciting! I have an invitation for a friend’s birthday party on Saturday, and I might also ask my friends to check my resume and cover letter for internship and graduate positions. They’re all working at the moment, and luckily, some of them even have experiences hiring people in their fields. I’m lucky to be able to have them help me with my resume and cover letter.

These days, I am trying to think about my future and what I am going to do after graduation, so I’m slowly researching companies here in Australia, but also in Korea as well. I still have one semester to go after this one, so it might be a bit early for graduate positions, but that hasn’t stopped me looking for vacation programs and internships. I’m finding all the gathering of information about companies really helpful, especially when trying to figure out which direction I should go in once I graduate. My father always says: Even though you cannot see the destination now, if you make a big schema of your life, and believe yourself and keep going, you will see your destination. Moreover, each moment in your life – including failures – will help lead you to your destination.

When I was young, I did not understand the point of what my father was saying. Now, however, I can understand a little bit what he was trying to say to me. Life is such a long journey, and if we first look at the big picture, the compass will be clearer moving forward.

I got up early this morning for a gym session and to get ready for my marketing presentation. Hopefully our group does well! I am a bit nervous because, as I’ve mentioned before, there are not many presentations in my Accounting major. But I reckon we’ll be alright – crossing my fingers!

While I’m majoring in Accounting, I also enjoy taking marketing and management units as well. Because a lot of the units in business are quite connected to each other, I’ve realised that combining different units works really well when they’re all combined together. Therefore, I try to take various units as electives in order to expand my business knowledge.

As I mentioned in my first entry, time flies so quickly! It feels like it’s only Tuesday but it’s almost the weekend! I might stay late at the library to finalise an assignment due next week. On top of that, I’m also going to book some workshops and seminars for a Leaders Program.

This year I’m doing the PALs Leaders Program, which finishes in October after I’ve submitted a portfolio. It’s a really good opportunity to develop leadership skills as we participate in many workshops and seminars. In addition, we have to do a team project where we can apply our leadership skills to real project.

Our team did our project this week, and I think it was a success! We organised a barbeque at the Caulfield campus, and chatted to and shared study tips with the students. As you can see from the photo, we had such a great time!

I encourage all students to join in the many activities and programs available. You can study and enjoy yourselves at the same time!

I cannot believe that it is already Week 8 and there are only four weeks left until the end of the semester. And weather is also telling us that summer vacation is almost here. Yay! Have you guys got something planned for this summer? I am already thinking about what I am going to do during the summer vacation!

But, back to reality! I am so busy this week and the next following weeks. I have a marketing presentation tomorrow and hopefully it will go well, but I am a bit nervous about it. Because I’m majoring in Accounting, I’m more used to mid-term tests than presentations, but it will be a good opportunity. I also have a big assignment due next Monday, but we have a mid-semester spring break the week after, which is awesome and I’m really looking forward to it! That said, I have a few more presentations and assignments after the break.

Even though I have a lot of assignments and presentations to do, it’s a lot easier to deal with each project one by one. I also like to find time to do enjoyable things, like quick catch-ups with friends on campus for coffee or exercising.

The weather today is so beautiful and it’s a great way to start off this week. Hopefully everything goes well and I’ve still got a smile on my face on Friday!

Hi there, my name is Mira Cho and I am from South Korea. I already have a degree in public administration in South Korea, but after working at Prudential Life Insurance, I decided I wanted to go back to university and study Business.

At the time, one of my friends was in Melbourne so I originally visited Melbourne while travelling. While I was visiting, I realised what a great city it was, which is why I’m back here to study.

I am currently in my third year of a Bachelor of Business, majoring in accounting. Even though my major is accounting, I am also taking management and marketing subjects to expand my business knowledge and network with other students. I am also involved in many activities at uni, including the PAL Program, volunteer work and seminars, which is why I chose Monash over the other universities. There are many programs available that not only focus on academic studies, but also provide students with the opportunity to broaden their knowledge and become more inspired through the programs and events.

I am still drawing my life picture and trying to expose myself to as many people, cultures and environments. I’m hoping that Monash is another one of the parts that will help me complete my life picture.
