Elaine: What's that major?

No comments :
Q. How did you choose your majors? Why did you want to study Marketing and Communications?
After studying the compulsory Commerce units and gaining a greater understanding of all the majors, I was able to decide which field I was best at and which areas I liked best. As I possessed a more creative and strategic mindset, and thoroughly enjoyed the ‘Principles of Marketing’ unit, I found my passion in marketing. It’s great because it really complements Communications, which is my Arts major,

Q. What do you think are the advantages of studying multiple majors in your degree?
Studying multiple majors is incredibly rewarding and beneficial. You are able to open up your opportunities and gain essential knowledge from a range of different fields. As I have a variety of different interests, I am able to explore each one in more depth, so my degree is tailored to what I enjoy most. Moreover, jobs are becoming increasingly multidisciplinary and require a broad range of skills. Therefore, learning beyond your primary discipline is highly advantageous for your future career, and indicates your willingness to learn and expand your horizons.

Q. What are the best or most interesting aspects of your majors?
The best aspect of my Marketing major is being able to learn the ropes of how marketers plan, communicate and attract and retain customers. It has taught me relevant and cross-functional skills essential in the business environment, and the challenges marketers face on a local and international scale. It is really interesting to explore the many different aspects of marketing, including strategy, consumer behaviour, branding, research and online marketing.

Q. Tell us something about your major that you wish you had known in high school?
In high school I had no clue about what marketing actually was. I assumed marketing only consisted of selling and advertising activities, but now I realise it is so much more than that. Marketing is better viewed as a concept, and the means by which an organisation or company projects itself to its audience, and how it behaves and interacts with its customers.
