Pascal: From school to university - Do what you're passionate about!
If you finished year 12 at the end of last year and are currently in your first few weeks of uni – congratulations! So the question now is what’s next for you? For those starting VCE, I’m sure this question worries you as well.
A lot of school leavers ask themselves this question in one way or another once they’ve completed their exams and during the (long) wait that follows while waiting for results. We all experience this process and we start to wonder what we really want to do in life or where to focus our attention.
My advice for everyone would be to do something you’re PASSIONATE about! A lot of us forget this and think that if we choose a specific degree or go into a certain industry, then the possibility of getting a job will be easier. Well let me tell you now, nothing is easy BUT if you do something you enjoy, you’ll be more determined to keep pushing forward. Don’t forget to aim high, and the hard work that you put in will bring you to where you want to be later in life.

Pascal: My internship journey in the finance world
Just having a university degree doesn’t always ensure that you land a job once you graduate. But knowing this means that you open yourself up to a range of endless opportunities during your journey as a university student.
I was lucky enough to get accepted into and enrol in the Industry Based Learning unit for my final semester. For this unit, I’m undertaking my placement at a financial advice company, and I am loving it! It is stressful to try and make the link between university life and the world of ‘adults’, and it’s sometimes scary as the expectations are high and you want to stand out. But once you get your hands on work experience, this transition is easier. I would greatly recommend this program to any students trying to make the most of their time at uni!
Similar to Will Smith from the movie ‘I Am Legend’, I understand that there is competition out there. But despite the competition, I hope to survive, thrive and make my time here worthwhile.

About me: Pascal
I am in my last year of a Bachelor of Business degree, majoring in Economics and Finance. My degree has been helpful in helping me specialise my knowledge and abilities for the professional services industry in small to medium business, and I am aiming to enter the Private Client Corporate Advisory world once I’ve completed my degree.
I am currently doing an internship in the Advisor stream at Oak Financial Partners as part of the Industry Based Learning program and enjoy getting involved in the Monash community through a range of programs, including being a PAL mentor and being a part of student panels that help improve the lifestyle of students at uni. I was also selected to be on the EQUIS Accreditation Panel, which helped the Business School gain triple crown accreditation.
I am a soccer and golf lifesaving enthusiast, to say the least. My aim in life is to build the necessary skills and experience to be able to bring a positive change to any community and help build a prospective and bright future for the younger generations.
