Antony: High society life, only not really

No comments :
Tuesday is my designated uni society day. Being the Publications Director at both the Economics Student Society of Australia (ESSA) and Amnesty Monash allows me to actively engage with like-minded students to encourage interesting economics and human rights discussion. I’ve certainly learnt lots of things in our discussions that we would not have thought up in the tutorial room!

I had two lots of meetings today for ESSA. First was a publications meeting which I chair. Here, our team strategised what we have planned for the rest of the semester. Aside from looking to improve our website articles, we’re working on our annual print publication, Equilibrium. Equilibrium is usually published later in the semester, highlighting ESSA’s work over the year, and featuring articles from our writers, academics and sponsors alike. With a successful launch last year, we’re looking to make Equilibrium bigger and better this year!

The second was a general Monash committee meeting. The main focus of the meeting was to plan for our signature event of the year, our ESSA Q&A. At #essaqanda we invite prominent industry professionals to discuss topical economics issues, just like the format for the TV version on the ABC! Lots of exciting things happening at ESSA this semester, so get along to one of our events if you can!

Between these meetings, I did some editing for Amnesty. This is the most interesting part of my role; I’m always learning something new every time I read a new article. To think that these pieces are written by undergraduates is frightening (in a good way, of course)!

If you’re interested in some of the work that we do, check out the ESSA website and the Amnesty website.

Antony: Playing catch-up (already?)

No comments :
Mondays are one of my days off from uni, yet I spent yesterday going through some of my readings. Now before people start thinking that I don’t have a life, I should mention that I missed the first week of classes as my escape to the warm weather and cheap food of Malaysia carried over to the start of semester. Aside from adjusting to the cold and rainy Melbourne winter, I’ve had to get straight back into the rigours of uni life, where readings feature prominently!

Fortunately, my lecturers didn’t delve too deep into the unit content during week 1. The content covered usually scrapes the surface of the unit; outlining the assessment structure, tutors’ consultation times and the direction of the subject matter. But with some preliminary assessments around the corner, I think its best that I keep on top of my workload early so as to minimise the chaos of essays and exams later in the semester!

Goodbye holiday mode (for now)!

Antony: About me

No comments :
I’m Antony (that’s right, no h’s) and I’m in my third year of Arts/Economics, majoring in International Studies and Economics. Taking a multi-dimensional double degree that allows me to explore my principle interests in economics, foreign affairs, climate change and human rights makes uni life challenging and enjoyable!

I also serve as the Publications Director of the Economics Student Society of Australia and Amnesty Monash. At both societies, I invigorate my nerd-adrenaline by working with a team of writers to produce regular articles about economics and human rights respectively. I’ve also recently completed a consulting project with Impetus Consulting Group, a student-run organisation that provides management consulting services to not-for-profits. When I’m not rushing around at uni, you can probably find me at a stand-up gig or staying up late to watch my beloved Arsenal F.C conquer European football.
